COVID-19 INFLUENCERS

For better or worse, social media is where people are. We need to fight misinformation on its own turf. Providing good information that is easy to digest and easy for people to share within their networks is crucial. Dear Pandemic (aka Those Nerdy Girls) was born in the early days of the pandemic to curate and communicate pandemic science to lay audiences (after fielding many questions from family & friends). We learned that building trust is the name of the game, which we did through answering reader questions, leading with empathy, sticking to facts, and meeting people where they are. Good science communication during a pandemic must be informative but also specific and practical.
