COVID-19 INFLUENCERS

2023 Social Media Awards

Thanking all those around the world who used social media to help make sense of the pandemic

Nominee Profile
  • Job title/position Professor and Science Communicator
  • Organization LadyScience
Social media is one of the most important tools to use during a pandemic because it's a way to feel and stay connected, decreasing social anxiety while providing accurate biomedical information in a quick, easy, and wide manner. My main goal when I created the LadyScience channel, is to make sure the COVID-19 scientific information was rigorous and reliable but also accessible, interesting, and entertaining for the public. During the first months of the pandemic, I had the moral and ethical obligation to combat viral and harmful hoaxes that led to misinformation, loss of credibility on science, and emotional distress threatening public health (such as COVID-19 denial or anti-vaccine movements). It wasn´t an easy task since hoaxes were fabricated deliberately and can be misleading and confusing. Nowadays, hoaxes are still spreading and attempting against our common sense and our health, so work still needs to be done. Overall, I am very happy with my contribution during the covid19 pandemic since I have received lots of appreciation messages from Spanish-speaking countries for my constant effort and passion and my approachable profile.
