Melissa is among the top scientist working to understand the transmission dynamics of malaria and ultimately contributing to the design an effective vaccine. I strongly endorse her for this award due to her enthusiasm to work towards reducing the burden of malaria.

Melissa's engagement work goes beyond Facebook and Twitter. She was brilliant on the inaugural African I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here (http://health14.imascientist.or.ke/profile/melissakapulu/). It is an online project that ran in Kilifi, Kenya last year. She answered dozens and dozens of questions on health and malaria from secondary schools children across the county. She tackled them all with honesty, wit and clear concise communication.
