Dr. Wolff is an associate professor of International Health at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSPH) and a Senior Fellow at Management Sciences for Health (MSH), a non-profit international public health management consulting company. At BUSPH Dr. Wolff teaches courses on Maternal and Child Health in Developing Countries, Program Design for Global Health, and Program Implementation for Global Health. He was the program director for a certificate course taught with colleagues from MSH, Leading Organizations to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals. He was also the co-director for the Boston University School of Public Health T-5 program in partnership with the Public Health Foundation of India and the Indian Council for Medical Research. He is also the a member of the partnership between Boston University, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Care Improvement, and the Muhimbili University for Health and Allied Sciences for faculty and curriculum development. Dr. Wolff is also the faculty representative for the field practice program for the Department on International Health. Dr. Wolff is also a practicing Emergency Physician at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts.

2014-08-01 10:54:35 James Wolff ("Wolffy") has incorporated Twitter into his Global Health courses taught at the Boston University School of Public Health as a way for students to share relevant literature, web sites, video and other information about global health. In one course, at baseline less than half the students said they understood how Twitter worked, and less than 25% had Twitter accounts. By the end of the course, 75% of students said they believed Twitter can be an effective tool to facilitate learning. Many continued to use Twitter professionally after the course. More recently, he has used "Storify", an online platform that helps students synthesize and use Twitter posts and other social media from the class into a story, summarizing and harmonizing the many voices to make meaning. Students are completely in charge of making the tweets and creating the stories. 2014-08-01 19:49:49 When I took Dr. Wolff's class, I was frustrated that I had to sign up for another social media site. But, after learning the ins and outs of twitter, I'm a few short weeks, I was a convert! Dr. Wolff helped me see that Twitter was not just another social media site where I would be updated on someone's latest meal or haircut or silly thought, but that it was really a great source of public health research and news. I also like that each year, I can see what the newest members of his course are tweeting! Finally, what is so fantastic about Dr. Wolff is that he incorporates twitter into the class room in a different way - building on lessons learned each year, so that he can find the best way to engage students. I continue to use twitter as a resource for public health news and know that many of my former classmates do as well.
