Biodun Awosusi is a highly motivated Public Health Physician with proven experience in leading innovative projects that contribute to health system strengthening. He has consistently demonstrated capacity to leverage new media to raise awareness and take action on topical health issues with focus on health system financing for universal health coverage, investment in community health workers and strengthening of human resource for health in Africa. He led the Rockefeller Foundation-funded Health for All Campaign for Universal Health Coverage led by Management Sciences for Health in Nigeria. The campaign recently co-hosted the national stakeholders meeting on universal health coverage in March 2014 with National Health Insurance Scheme, International Finance Corporation and PharmAccess Foundation; the outcome of the meeting contributed to the Summit Declaration ratified by stakeholders and Presidency. He is Technical Officer - Health Financing on the Program to Build Leadership and Accountability in Nigeria's Health System (PLAN Health) project funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project strengthens institutional capacity of civil society organizations and public sector institutions on response to HIV and other diseases. In 2012, he-cofounded the MDGs in Africa blog, a platform which provides concise updates and inspiring stories on the progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Africa. The blog was a finalist at the World Summit Youth Award 2013 for its effective use of social media to mobilize support for the MDGs. In February 2013, he received the Lagos State Governor’s Award for his remarkable contribution in improving access to healthcare for the poor and vulnerable in urban slums in Lagos through the Here2Heal project. A key player in the African civil society network for universal health coverage, Biodun is an active blogger on MSH Global Health Impact, Lancet Global Health Blog and MDGs in Africa. He holds Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from Obafemi Awolowo University, certificate in Basics of Health Economics from the World Bank Institute and Master Certificate in Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University. He also recently completed the first WHO Advanced Course on health system financing for Universal Health Coverage.
