The Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research (CCHSR) is a collaboration between two leading health care research groups: the Health Services Research Group based in the Institute of Public Health at the University of Cambridge, and the Health and Healthcare Group based at RAND Europe. Together, we form a collective of over twenty researchers from a wide variety of backgrounds, brought together with the common aim of informing policy through evidence-based research on health services, both in the UK and internationally. The groups are led by Martin Roland, Professor of Health Services Research at the University of Cambridge and Tom Ling, Senior Research Leader on the Evaluation and Performance Audit team at RAND Europe.

2014-09-11 06:06:19 I wish to nominate the Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research (@CCHSR), for the category of organisation that best employs social media to engage civil society in health systems discussion. CCHSR is a university based health services research group passionate about disseminating research findings and stimulating discussion on issues related to health systems to as wide an audience as possible. They tweet incessantly and post regular blogs which are both entertaining and informative (www.cchsr.iph.cam.ac.uk). Their tweets and blogs relate to issues of world-wide interest, e.g. recent their own research on mobile phone use for mental health care in LMICs, lay beliefs contributing to delayed diagnosis of cancer in Uganda and health care seeking behaviour in Egypt. Despite it’s small size (~20 staff), CCHSR was voted number one in the world in health policy think tanks in 2013. This accolade came from the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program run by the University of Pennsylvania – across all the categories 1950 peer institutions and expert panellists were involved in the nomination and selection process, and 52,000 votes were cast – see www.gotothinktank.com. CCHSR’s Twitter followers come from all parts of the world, from Nigeria, Canada, Uganda and Kenya. As well as many academics, they come from a range of sectors demonstrating the ability of an academic group to reach out to a wider world – including NGOs, think tanks, journalists, industry and patient organisations.
