Combines both insightful and humorous posts on twitter that reveal a passion for health systems and social justice, without taking herself too seriously...something we could all learn from. Also a voice from the global South that appreciates neglected issues such as gender, whose research is filled with empathy for the people that make up health systems on the frontlines.

A rare breed, someone whose eye and research is not on the next cash incentive but a true social activist, still someone who believes that she can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Karen is methodologically rigorous, concisely communicative, and caring. She has acted as a social linker of a number of different networks in the last few months through her social media activity (and from which I and my networks have benefited from extensively!).

Karen has been one of the biggest advocates of #HSR2014 well before the conference started and during, and deserves recognition for spotlighting the conference for the health systems community and beyond.
